Rwanda VISA

Travelling to Rwanda, one needs a valid passport for at least 6 months after your travel return date. Have all your travel documents photocopied and have your copies as this will be your starting point incase you lost any of your travel document while on tour For all visitors visiting Rwanda, you require to have a visa except for nationals of USA, Germany, Sweden, United Kingdom, Kenya, Hong Kong, Burundi, DRC, South Africa, Mauritius, Uganda and Tanzania for a period of only 3 months. For other nationalities you must apply for a Rwanda Visa online at

You will be issued a confirmation form online which takes 3-7days after application is sent and a Visa is issued at the airport on arrival and at crossing border points if one is approaching Rwanda by road.

A Rwanda tourist’s visa costs USD 30 Valid for 3 months and Single East Africa Visa allowing you to cross to Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya costs USD 100. East African Treks and Safari will send you an invitation letter for Rwanda Visa.


Rwanda’s international airport is Kigali and has a number of international flights that land every day from different destinations. That is KLM royal Ducth, SN Brussels, Turkish airlines, Ethiopian airlines, South African airlines, Qatar, and Kenya airways.


The Rwanda Currency is Rwandan Franc, It’s important to have some local currency and small bills of US Dollars during your travel in Rwanda. Dollar currency is the most generally accepted currency in Rwanda. You will need approximately $30 a day for spending money. Banks will accept to charge VISA cards, Master cards, America Express over the counter though banks are mostly found in capital cities and big towns upcountry.
Important Notes
• In Rwanda they do not except us dollars given out before 2006
• When you exchange money use big notes (50 or 100 us dollar). The exchange rate of smaller notes is much lower.
• Make sure notes are not cut, or damaged in any way. It will not be accepted.


Only Visa cards can be used in ATMs we recommend Eco Bank and Bank of Kigali. Other card transactions can be done over the bank counter. There is a limit per day on money withdrawn which is approximately $100. Traveler cheques

Credit Card
In some big hotels credit cards are accepted, though we advise not to use credit cards as your primary method of payment. If used, they might come with a surcharge.


Due to the high elevation of Rwanda, the average temperatures range between 15 to 27 degrees. With its tropical climate, Rwanda is a year round travel destination with only two season hot and dry. The best time to travel to Rwanda is during the hot season as it makes travelling much easier avoiding muddy sections during treks.

French is mainly used throughout the country, though English will be spoken at tourist destinations and hotels. Other local languages will are spoken mainly in the remote areas.


Rwanda is very safe to travel to and has since the 1992 genocide progressively developed. The people are extremely welcoming and very friendly. Today Rwanda is marked as one of the fast growing economies in Africa with modern infrastructure mainly within the city of Kigali.
